The Bible
A Supernatural Book, Part 1
The Bible is a supernatural book. It is God’s revelation to man. It does not contain the words of God — it is the Word of God. It’s strength lies not in whether men believe it and accept it, or whether men attempt to prove it, and thereby believe that in doing so they give it some intrinsic value. The Bible’s strength lies in it author — GOD! God is the true and only Author. Man could never have penned it without the moving and inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God.
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2 Peter 1:21)
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (2 Timothy 3:16)
God knows our frame, He understands humanity in it’s totality, in it’s frailties. He speaks to human hearts, to human weaknesses, and expresses Himself in human language. Using terms that all man can easily comprehend, He reveals Himself as a Father. He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. (Psalm 89:26) For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. (Proverbs 3:12) The Lord Jesus Christ directs us in Matthew 6:9 to use this salutation in prayer, After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. (Matthew 6:9). He reveals Himself as a Friend, And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. (Exodus 33:11) And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. (James 2:23)
He informs us that He has eyes to see, ears to hear, He smells “a sweet savour,” He stretches His hands out to mankind, He rejoices, He pleads, He remembers, and He is grieved. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. (Genesis 6:6) He knows rejection, O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! (Matthew 23:37) He knows the hatred and enmity of men against Him. God paints a portrait of Himself in ways that no mere mortal man could ever do outside of the direction of the Holy Spirit of God. No man could ever have reasoned, invented or discovered the God of the Scriptures as written by God Himself. The Bible stands in stark contrast with books authored by mere man.
God and His Word are both rejected, because man desires a God like himself, easily influenced, unable to discern, constantly changing values and moral beliefs; a god that is merely a guy in the sky, a good luck charm, a nameless powerless “higher power,” and a winking, happy, smiling Santa Claus who showers us with goodies. The world would accept a generic God and a book without standards; whereby, every man can do that which is right in his own eyes. A book that stirs the conscience and the heart is not desired. It is far easier to mock and deride the Bible than to actually read it!
Man lives within the limitations and boundaries of time, space and dimension. The greatest mind can never reach into the depths of God’s realm. God is beyond time and space. He knows no limitations and has no boundaries in the space-time-history of man. God reaches across time, He exists beyond space, He moves and acts throughout all dimensions, and yet in His Holiness and Righteousness, God reached out to humanity to reveal Himself. God has written a Book. The Book is a Book for all mankind, for all ages, free from errors, and answers every false doctrine and heresy as it materializes. The Scriptures reveal God’s power to inspire His Book, and His power to preserve His Holy Word.
We believe in the complete inerrancy of Scripture, and the enduring truth of the Word of God. Christ through the power of the Spirit of God, has kept it pure and true for all men to understand the will and purposes of God. The God who created the universe, the stars, the planets surely is more than able to keep His Word throughout the ages of man.
