Hebrews 1:2

The Book of Hebrews

Chapter 1:2

Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (Hebrews 1:2)

Now God reveals His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. In the fullness of time, God sent His Son. Galatians 4:4,5 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. This verse begins with “in these last days,” the day of Christ our Lord; thus, putting urgency to our state before God. (Matthew 24:42-44) Here the God of heaven declares this point in time the manifestation of Himself as the last days. From this point in history time is divided forever, before Christ and the manifestation of Jesus Christ and His death on the cross. When Christ said “it is finished” the work of redemption was complete, and His resurrection was the evidence of His finished work on earth. Now we have time — A.D.— a post in time to remind man of Christ’s finished work, and “these days” will continue till time will be no longer. Also, I might point out that everything from this point dictates the future of man, both in redemption and in judgement. In Hebrews, Chapter 2, verse 3 we read How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

Now in these last days, God has spoken by His Son, in His complete and final witness of Himself to man. Lastly, He sent His Son to the vineyard, and men of wicked hearts took Him outside the vineyard and said, ” we will not have this man to rule over us.” So they beat Him more than any other man, Isaiah 53. They whipped Him, they nailed Him to the cross or tree, they mocked and reviled Him, “if thou be the Christ, come down from the cross.” And the angels of God veiled their eyes with their wings and God the Father turned His back, so Christ could cry Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? The door of redemption was swung wide open — redemption was now complete — and God’s call went out to whosoever will come, because of the voice of Jesus Christ in these last days.

Church history is coming to a close, the time is short for the calling of those who will come into the body of Christ. The Lord soon will call us home to be with Him; nevertheless, God is long suffering. He is outside of time, and does not measure time as we measure time, it could be this very day that I am writing this or one hundred years from now. But I will spend my time watching and waiting. Just a side note, when I was in the military, and the time of going home or discharge was close, I took a calendar and crossed out the days, in our spiritual life, we can cross out the days by meditating and beholding the wonders out of the Word of God, till we go home.

Soon all the saints of God will be going home to glory. It is good for the heart to be ready to meet the Lord Jesus face to face, (Hosea 6:2) to worship Him without the hindrance of the outside world. Our voices will be stronger and sweeter when we walk through the veil. Oh, what joy to see Him in all His glory, and to see the host of all our brethren as we all bow down before the Lamb that was slain, and who has redeemed us to God by His blood; in worship and holy prayers that He should receive glory, honor and power (Rev. 4:11) Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

There are eight mentions of the “last days” in the Bible. Genesis 49:1; Isaiah 2:2; Micah 4:1, Acts 2:17; 2 Timothy 3:1, Hebrews 1:2, James 5:3 and 2 Peter 3:3. All these relate to one time period, from incarnation to coronation to new heavens and new earth. Though this time period has many divisions the total is known by “these last days.” We have the record of the incarnation in the 4 Gospels; Matthew, the King has come; Mark, my servant greater than Moses; Luke, the Son of man, the perfect man, and John, the Son of God, the perfect sacrifice. And to come, the coronation, when all of creation will bow to the Lord of lords and the King of kings, (Psalm 24)

He will reign in righteousness from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same. The conquering hero will sit on His throne with a scepter of righteousness, anointed with the oil of gladness. Then, at the end of time, our Beloved will hand all things to God, and God will be all in all. He will stretch forth His right arm and speak into existence a new heaven and a new earth, (2 Peter 3:3) wherein righteousness will dwell. There will be no sin, no serpent the devil, no death, nothing to defile or destroy, joy will fill the hearts with the glory of God.

Now these last days are here, God has spoken through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, as the great witness of God, yea, God Himself came down to speak to man, to walk with man, to endure suffering as a man, to groan and cry inside over man, and to give of Himself as the Holy Lamb of God; so that man might be saved from the wrath to come. God has spoken to us through His Son. Hebrews 2:3 states which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, this is the message that He brings to us, to be delivered from sin, death, and hell by His sacrifice, and to spend all eternity with Him. The Lord Jesus declared that His words were spirit and life. (John 6:63) It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. The word of God is spirit and they are the words of life. My Bible has a heart, has breathe, has the spirit of God in every word, and God’s Spirit witnesses with my spirit that All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:. ( 2 Timothy 3:16) Our blessed Lord reminded the devil in Matthew 4, that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that precedes out of the mouth of God, giving us more authority and more sustenance than our daily food. And truly, the Bible is the manna sent down from heaven. I show you a wonder, open your Bible, turn to Psalm 119, read it as a map for life, everything in life is taught to anyone who is seeking God and His righteousness in this Psalm. The value of the Word of God is more precious than gold, more powerful than the sword, and full of grace and mercy. While the Lord was ministering here on earth, He declared that God’s Word, His Word was ever lasting, heaven and earth would pass away but my Word will endure forever. (Matthew 24:35) Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Thus, God has spoken to us in these last days by His Son.

The next revelation in this verse is that God has appointed the Lord Jesus, heir of all things. This relates not only to our time but to unfulfilled prophecy. Ephesians 3:8 tells of the unsearchable riches of Christ, these are not temporal or earthly riches which glorifies the possessor, but unsearchable riches of eternity, that which the Son gives unto His own. Briefly, these riches are peace with God, salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ, the very possession of the mind that was in Christ Jesus, for our daily needs and walk with Him. He is made unto us wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:30 -31, Proverbs 8) and the more our will becomes His will, the riches of glory increase in our souls. Proverbs 8 unfolds wisdom to us — that we can learn the deep depths of the secret of our God. In today’s world, just God’s wisdom is worth all the unsearchable riches of the world. Proverbs 8 teaches not to just acknowledge wisdom, but to learn wisdom in all its length and its breadth. Wisdom leadeth to righteousness, and to righteousness, sanctification, and to sanctification to redemption. Read Proverbs 3:5-19. Some New Testaments and Bible have the words of the Lord Jesus Christ in red, I keep one and sometimes read just His words. I find this a great reminder that not only His words are totally given of God, but the very words of His Son are spirit and they have life. Christ is heir of all things, I am part of that, the whole body of Christ is part of His inheritance. Think of it, we are joined in an inseparable union with the King of kings and the Lord of lords; who I declare is my Saviour, for He has redeemed me by His blood. This inheritance from His birth through all eternity is unsearchable, and His ways past finding out.

Lastly, in this verse, God reveals to us that Christ is the Creator of all things. Notice how the entire Chapter of Hebrews 1 explodes. First, with the Great God and His spoken word, then His eternal Son speaks. He the Son is heir of all things, the Creator of all things, the brightness of His glory, the express image of His person; and on to His throne, His scepter is a scepter of righteousness, it is He who hath laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works of His hands. Lastly, with warning, He states, till I make all thy enemies thy footstool. In this verse of Hebrews 1:2, we find both the spoken Word and the living Word. It is Christ who spoke the world into existence, and it is Christ who upholds all by the Word of His power. From the beginning in Genesis to the new heavens and new earth, it is through His Word that all things consist. We believe that the world was framed by the Word of God. I will give you a list of verses for your study: Colossians 1:12-22; 2:9-10; Ephesians 1:17-23; Revelation 4:11; John 1:1-3; Gospel of John 5: 39. Hebrews 1:2 breaks down into four sections; (1) “these last days”, (2) “God has spoken by His Son, (3) the Son is heir of all things, and (4) He, the Son, is Creator of all things.

The heirship of Christ also deals with unfulfilled prophecy. He will one day return to set up His kingdom and will reign over the earth as Lord of lords and King of kings for a thousand years, and thus fulfilling many Old Testament prophecies. Read Psalm 2:6-8; Psalm 24: 6-10; Isaiah 53:12; Isaiah 63:1-6. Israel will once again be lifted up in His favor. She will become the center of all the earth. The Lord will reign after He puts down all the nations of the earth, and takes His kingdom by force. This will be Israel’s time, yet it is still in time and part of the “last days.” For two thousand plus years, He has been reigning over His mystical Church, or the Body of Christ, who are a heavenly people and not of this earth. We have been lifted into a new life through Jesus our Lord. We are not born of blood, nor by the will of the flesh, nor by the will of man, but of God’s will. (John1:13) So we seek those things which are above where Christ sits on the right hand of God. (Colossians 3:1-4; Hebrews 11:13-16) Even though we physical live in these “last days” time is no longer our master, we, as Christians, have been freed from sin, death, hell, and time. We are children of eternity, and our eternity is in Jesus Christ. When time will be no longer we will still be in the possession and endearment of Christ. As He loved us unto death, He will love us throughout all eternity. The heavens and the earth that now is will be on fire and dissolve, and our Great God will make a new heaven and a new earth wherein righteousness will reign — and God will be All in All. Amen.

Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (Hebrews 1:2)
