The First War in the Supernatural Realm

And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, (Revelation 12:7)

And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. (Revelation 12:8)

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelation 12:9)

WAR . . . WAR! How can this be? WAR in heaven. WAR in God’s Supernatural realm. We can comprehend WAR on earth, but WAR in God’s realm is incomprehensible. If you have been following this series then you know HOW and you know WHO was the cause of this turmoil, and you know WHY this war was instigated; therefore, I do not want to repeat the HOW, the WHO and the WHY.

Let us learn more about the General who led the armies of God against the dragon. Note that Lucifer is now called the dragon. The name Michael is mentioned in the Old Testament fifteen (15) times; ten (10) times in reference to particular Israelite men; however, and five (5) times the name Michael is directly connected to a specific angel with a specific directive. He is Michael, one of the chief princes, and Michael your prince, Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people, and Michael the archangel, also Michael and his angels. (Daniel 10:13)

• But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. (Daniel 10:13)

• But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and [there is] none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince. (Daniel 10:21)

• And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. (Daniel 12:1)

• Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. (Jude 1:9)

• And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels. (Revelation 12:7)

Michael was one of the chief princes, this informs us that there were other chief princes, and he was the prince, and the great prince, and the archangel in the celestial hierarchy of. A prince is one who holds complete authority over a territory or a jurisdiction: a principality; thus, a PRINCipality must have a PRINCE. Although I have previously written about principalities, this is new material beyond previous articles. The word principality (singular) is only mentioned twice (the number of witness and testimony) in the New Testament and is attributed to Christ in the fullness of the Godhead bodily having complete authority and power over and above ALL principality. (It is a difficult exercise to get our minds around spiritual principalities in heavenly places. What would these principalities involve?)

Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, (Ephesians 1:20) Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: (Ephesians 1:21) And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, (Ephesians 1:22) Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. (Ephesians 1:23)

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. (Colossians 2:9) And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: (Colossians 2:10)

Let us continue to follow this word to its plural form of principalities. The word principalities is mentioned seven (7) times in the Bible: once in the Old Testament in Jeremiah 13:18. (Notice again Chapter 13 and its message of the massive destruction and Judah and Jerusalem). Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, [even] the crown of your glory. This word principalities is recorded six times in the New Testament making us aware of a common jurisdiction shared between the supernatural realm and the natural realm. Notice (through the following verses) that the spiritual supernatural realm of principalities is very active on earth.

• For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, (Romans 8:38)

• To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly [places] might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, (Ephesians 3:10)

• For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]. (Ephesians 6:12)

• For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (Colossians 1:16)

• [And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:15)

• Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, (Titus 3:1)

The word principalities is tied to the word powers. There are two supernatural streams of principalities, powers and princes: first, those controlled by God and His Christ, and secondly, those under the control of Satan, but also notice this: [And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:15) Guess who has the greater power? Christ claimed the victory at the cross and confirmed His victory at His resurrection having conquered death, and by overcoming death, He completely destroyed, and spoiled, the principalities, the powers, and the princes of the corrupt stream of sin and death.

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; (Colossians 2:13) Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; (Colossians 2:14) And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:15)

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; (Hebrews 2:14)

Looking at one of the Generals (Michael) in the heavenly army, this archangel before sin and before the creation of the earth, and before the creation of the nation of Israel had principalities and areas of jurisdictions that he was responsible for and had authority over. After sin disrupted the essence of God in His goodness, Michael was given command over additional areas to rule over. If we read about Lucifer’s authority, it may help us to further understand the economy of this spiritual supernatural realm. The word ‘economy’ also means an organized structure, and since this structure exists in an unseen realm, we are only given veiled glimpses into this realm as looking through a lattice. My beloved is like a roe or a young hart: behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh forth at the windows, shewing himself through the lattice. (Song 2:9)

•Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. (Ezekiel 28:14) Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. (Ezekiel 28:14) Through this description we see worship: Lucifer was covered by precious stones of priestly service to God, directed by the High Priest, Melchisedec, who is the Lord Jesus. Also, as the anointed angel, in the position of a Cherubim (not a Seraphim) he was closely aligned to the Mercy seat of God in the throne room of God. And he also had an additional responsibility upon the holy mountain of God as he walked in complete liberty in the midst of the stones of fire.

• By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. (Ezekiel 28:16) The Holy Spirit opens another thought to us in the word merchandise. What is spiritual merchandise? We know what earthly merchandising is, it is the buying and selling of goods and services. Did Satan use his authority through his priestly role to advance himself and other rogue angels? This would certainly not surprise me because since the beginning of earthly priesthood in the nation of Israel, the men of priesthood have used their authority to advance themselves in every way imaginable. Remember that the first sin in heaven began in the sanctuary, consequently, the first sin within the sanctuary on earth in the Tabernacle (in the wilderness) was committed by Nadab and Abihu (priests), the two sons of Aaron, the high priest.

Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. (Ezekiel 28:18) The Holy Spirit of God now attaches another evil element connected to the word sanctuary . . . by the iniquity of thy traffick. This is not another sin in the heavenly sanctuary by Lucifer and his accomplices, but this shows the increase development of merchandising into a profitable business of trade and commerce. The selling and trading of priestly roles to one another in the hierarchy of rogue angels. Lucifer developed and organized his own kingdom in heaven that ran as a counterfeit kingdom alongside God’s system. Wherever God planted His righteous system, Lucifer also planted his unrighteous system.  (Think of the professing church (with its selling and bartering of promotions and advancements in  priestdom) and the possessing Church existing side by side in the earthly sphere.)

This should not surprise anyone of how closely evil men of merchandising are connected to Satan, the dragon. It is one thing to be involved with trade and commerce of goods and services, and it is entirely another thing to traffic in sex slavery, slavery of any kind, and the selling of human beings. This is one of the many sins that is abhorring to God in the last age, the age of Babylon the great. (Read Revelation Chapter18). Most likely, when we get to Babylon further on in this series, we will be dealing in detail all about Chapter 18. But for now, we are concentrating on . . . . .

♦

The First War in the Supernatural Realm

And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, (Revelation 12:7)

And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. (Revelation 12:8)

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelation 12:9)

In the earthly realm Michael was the great prince who oversaw the things of the nation of Israel, therefore, it is quite fitting that the last mention of Michael is in the 12th Chapter of the book of the Revelation. This Chapter is the history of the nation of Israel encapsulated in seventeen (17) verses. The meaning of the name Michael is “Who is as God? There are only three angels who are named in all of Scripture: Lucifer, Michael and Gabriel. Lucifer “the shining one,” or son of the morning;” Michael Who is as God; and Gabriel “man of God,or warrior or mighty one of God. (Here is an interesting point to consider that God named these three particular angels using three aspects of Christ Himself. These names all describe Christ: the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and the word of his power.) The book of Hebrews Chapter 1, verse 3 describes Christ: Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (Hebrews 1:3) Everything in God’s realm reflects the greatness, the power, the righteousness and the holiness of God in Christ. So therefore, before sin, why would not the names of these three angels represent His greatness?

And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. (Revelation 5:13)

Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. (1st Chronicles 29:11)

Believers have been promised to receive new names in glory. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth [it]. (Revelation 2:17) Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, [which is] new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and [I will write upon him] my new name. (Revelation 3:12) If you have been following this site: The Genesis Epic, then you are familiar with the importance that God places in names. Consequently, the importance of the meaning of names carries into the Lord Jesus Christ giving each saved individual a new name, a name that reflects His new name. Therefore, we should not find it strange that the three angels who are named in Scripture: Lucifer, Michael and Gabriel were given names that reflected the name of God in His goodness, His greatness, His power, His righteousness and His holiness.

Side Note: Glory misappropriated. Being aware of many Church mission statements, I have noticed that many claim to be preparing a people for the Lord; however, their methods of preparing a people seem more directed to their being prepared for earth, and their church of the earth, and the things of vanity and pride, and not for their preparation for heavenly existence. How much more shall the children of God reflect His glory then when they are in His presence IN glory. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. (Ezekiel 28:13) Before sin, Lucifer bore on himself the glory of God, thus, reflecting the essence of God, and he (through pride) began to attribute this glory to himself. Has not the professing church done the same? ♦ End of Side Note: Glory misappropriated.

When Lucifer sinned, he not only attempted to overthrow God and God’s realm, but he also attempted to remove Melchisedec, the High Priest of God, and replace Christ as the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and the word of his power; thus, becoming a counterfeit and an imposter of the spiritually visible Supernatural image of the invisible God Himself. This sin in heaven was so cataclysmic that the realm of God had to be cleansed from its effects, and the realm on earth was also swallowed up by its sin, and the natural universe was also moved by disharmonic forces. As we have previously written Lucifer is also described as the anointed cherub that covereth, and the covering cherub.

Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. (Ezekiel 28:14)

By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. (Ezekiel 28:16)

This is one of the reasons why the treachery of Lucifer shattered the Supernatural realm. Lucifer had been anointed, set apart from the other cherubs to serve God in a very special way. He was a covering cherub. What did he cover? Always allow Scripture to explain Scripture. Everything in God’s realm preceded the things on earth. First came the heavens and then the earth. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Genesis 1:1) All things first began in the realm of the spiritual supernatural, then God (through His word) allow us glimpses into that spiritual supernatural realm through the physical (what we call the natural realm). However, the natural world really is the spiritual supernatural realm, and our “natural realm” is merely fashioned after the patterns within the spiritual supernatural world. (Please follow along with these thoughts: since the things of earth are fashioned AFTER the pattern of things in the heavenlies, would not have God placed Laws in the supernatural heavenlies at His creation of the heavens? The laws of energy which takes in light, motion, and thermodynamics; and also, the spiritual law of oneness, and the spiritual law of The Divine Nature; these are only just a few of the Laws of God in time and timelessness. Would God not have also placed laws of obedience and disobedience (in His foreknowledge) for His created angels?

At the creation of the human species (Adam and Eve) He also placed this first Law of obedience and disobedience. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: (Genesis 2:16) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:17) Obey and live, disobey and die. However, since angels cannot die, the severest judgment would be their punishment for disobedience.

Consequently, the things in the Tabernacle in the wilderness are just shadow objects of the true things in heaven. In the book of Exodus, verse 20, Chapter 25, we have just one reference from many references concerning the mercy seat that covered the ark of the covenant of the Lord. And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be. These cherubs represented what was actually in heaven. They covered the mercy seat with their wings, protecting, shielding, guarding God’s holiness and righteousness. In 1st Chronicles Chapter 28, verse 18, we read, And for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot of the cherubims, that spread out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD. Did God need to be shielded, protected and guarded in the heavens that He created? No, of course not. So, what was the purpose of the covering cherubs of the ark of the covenant of the Lord in the heavens? GOD IS SPIRIT, and because HE IS SPIRIT, His holiness and righteousness was to be visibly presented and discerned even in His Supernatural realm; therefore, there is a Temple in heaven, there is the ark of his testament, and there is an altar. All the elements of worship are in the heavenlies, in the throne room of God. And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail. (Revelation 11:19) And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer [it] with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. (Revelation 8:3) Before sin in heaven, there was worship. Before sin in heaven, the holiness and righteousness of God was set above and apart from His created creatures called cherubs to be held in reverence and awe. God’s greatness is beyond all earthly words and beyond all heavenly language; the majesticness of His glory can only be viewed by earthly eyes in the Son of His love, the Lord of lords, and King of kings, Jesus Christ. In this sinless heavenly atmosphere of the pureness of worship these covering cherubs didn’t shield, protect and guard against sin, their presence proclaimed the ultimate holiness and glory of the thrice holy God. These covering cherubs drew and directed worship to the Great Creator God.

In Chapter 4 of the book of the Revelation, in verse 4, we read, And the four beasts had each of them six wings about [him]; and [they were] full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. We cannot not understand this world of pureness, we cannot understand our thrice holy God, we cannot understand this world of a sinless economy, we cannot understand . . . . we are not called to understand totally nor completely, however, we are told to believe. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)

♦

And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. (Revelation 12:8)

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelation 12:9)

Lucifer failed in his attempted coup d’état and having lost the very first war in the supernatural universe of God, he lost his position, his rank, the source of his power, and his angelic beauty was now marred. The brightness of Lucifer was only bright because it reflected the glory of God, and without the reflection of God’s glory upon his being his changed nature became that of a beast.

Side Note: The History of Sin. The history of sin, yes, sin has a history. Although the history of sin first began in the heavens among God’s non-human creation of creatures. The sin history of earth can be seen in the fall of Adam. What did Adam fall from? He fell from the image of God, being made in the image of God, Adam fell from the highest spiritual and physical pinnacle of humanity to the lowest point no longer cloaked and covered by the glory of God. Adam’s fall was almost a duplicate of Satan’s fall. Mankind is propelling himself through a continuous downward plunge into beasthood . . . where is evolution now? Men trying to become women, women attempting to become men, reason replaced by treason, common sense replaced by insanity, children manipulated to become willingly mutilated by adults who remain physically whole, and the brilliant wielders of power seek utopia for themselves through dystopia for all others. ♦ End of Side Note: The History of Sin

That is one of the reasons why Lucifer’s personality is seen in his man of sin (6 – 6 – 6) as a beast. And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. (Revelation 13:17) Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six. (Revelation 13:18) Since Satan has power, we often forget that there are many things that he cannot do. (By the way as a mini side note: only Christ is said to have great power.) A few of the many things that Satan cannot do is that: he cannot stop God’s purposes; he cannot redirect his destiny from its determined path. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (Revelation 20:10) (Another point of interest, it is not only mankind who longs for eternal life, but the strange thing is that mankind is already guaranteed eternal life: life eternal with Christ in God, or life eternal in judgment.) And because angels cannot die, I imagine that Satan and his treacherous angel followers wish that they could die, for their destiny is to be eternally tormented, and righteously so because it was their actions that led to the first war in the creation, and from their actions mankind has also followed in sin to endure wars upon wars on earth. Satan cannot return to his place in God’s spiritual supernatural realm. Satan cannot return to his place in God’s priestly realm. Satan cannot be redeemed. (Only mankind was created to be redeemed. Redemption is out of Satan’s reach.) (Since angels were created outside of death and redemption, therefore, these are two of the many reasons that angels could not and did not intermix with women before the flood . . . but this particular subject has already been addressed in previous articles.) Satan cannot overcome God. Satan can never again take on the name of Lucifer; thus, he forever is the opposite of brightness, and in opposition to light he surrounds himself with darkness. Satan can never again represent nor reflect anything that is of God. Satan not only lost the battle in heaven, but he has already lost the battle on earth when Christ said, It is finished. Although Satan lost the battle, he refuses to surrender, thus, drawing unrepentant mankind into the throes of rebellion and death to be joined with him in sure judgment.

♦

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelation 12:9)

The Lord Jesus Christ is recorded in Luke 10:18 saying, And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Three times we see the word cast out, as the great dragon was cast out of heaven, and he and his followers were cast out together. Three times loudly speaks that the determinate counsels of the Godhead were united together in their condemnation against the creature who had been given great power and authority over the things of God. No creature, whether human, or non-human is ever allowed to trample the things of God without receiving their just recompense of reward. Obey and live, disobey and die was the first commandment and Law of the earth, therefore, it also had to be a divine Law in God’s holy realm.

One third of the angels were cast out of heaven but notice that it is Satan alone that was cast out into the earth. These angel followers were immediately taken into custody in chains of darkness and reserved unto judgment. Yet Satan was allowed to roam the earth.

And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. (Jude 1:6)

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; (2nd Peter 2:4)

Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly: (Job 4:18)

Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight. (Job 15:15)

The Spirit of God does not speak here of the creation of the earth, nor of Adam and Eve, or of Cain, nor of the destruction of the old world by water, nor of mankind after the flood, but verse 9 simple states that God CAST OUT His enemies from His realm into another realm: Earth. Although I have previously stated that this principle of separation is first seen in the book of Genesis, I did not state that this principle of separation actually first occurred in the spiritual realm.

The Holy Spirit of God reveals things of the supernatural in the same manner that He reveals the things of the ‘natural.’ He doesn’t catalogue per subject matter, He doesn’t use an indexing system, nor does He present everything that He created chronologically for us. Although the Bible is an immense library, God does not use the Dewey Decimal Classification system. This is God’s method: Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. (Isaiah 28:9) For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little. (Isaiah 28:10) Someone once asked, How long does it take you to write an article? My reply was Forty-seven years.

What is revealed about Lucifer/Satan/the old serpent/the red dragon/and the Devil cannot be quickly accessed through a few verses here and a few verses there. The Spirit of God reveals only to those who diligently seek and have a deep desire to know the things of the holy. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which [be] the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. (Hebrews 5:12) For every one that useth milk [is] unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. (Hebrews 5:13) There is nothing wrong with milk, but there comes a time for all children of God to use their teeth (while we still have some) and chew on some nourishing meat. (Wow, did I just inadvertently insult a vegan?) Thus, even in this verse And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelation 12:9) there are depths to yet be discovered, and many times, God deliberately keeps us away from things that are beyond our understanding as a safeguard. CLICK here for more about this first great conflict in God’s supernatural realm.

Read this verse once more and see if you can pick out a phrase that just does not seem to belong or fit into this scene. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelation 12:9) Whenever I encounter a word, phrase or concept that seems to be outside of the rest of the verse, I always ask, Why? The phrase which deceiveth the whole world, doesn’t seem to belong here, because at this point of being CAST OUT into the world, Satan hasn’t yet had an opportunity to influence the world. Yet, this phrase is used in the present tense: not future as ‘he is going to deceive the whole world,’ but he deceiveth the whole world. God reveals through this phrase His sovereignty, and His foreknowledge. It is as if God, through His Spirit, is saying to readers, Don’t worry, I’ve got this. I find comfort in knowing that God is sovereign, that He has all under His control. Although Satan has been CAST OUT into the earth, and has deceived the whole world, his end is sure. Nothing surprises our God. Nothing is outside of His foreknowledge. As Satan was CAST OUT of God’s spiritual Supernatural realm of righteousness and holiness, God will also CAST him OUT of the world. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. (John 12:31)

Notice another interesting point: Revelation Chapter 12, verse 9 is about the great dragon, that old serpent, the Devil, Satan being CAST OUT of God’s heavenly realm into the earth. The twelve (12th) Chapter of John is about Satan, the prince of this world being CAST OUT of this world. Coincidence of address location numbering? I think NOT! And here is another coincidence, the record of Satan being CAST OUT into the earth from God’s realm is documented in the ninth verse. The number nine is the number that marks the CONCLUSION of the matter in JUDGMENT! Yup, I’d say that this was a coincidence, wouldn’t you? How things begin in Scripture usually ends in the same manner. This first judgment marks the exact judgment that Satan is destined to experience when he will be cast out of the world. What marked this judgment against Satan? Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. (John 12:31) The cross of Christ was the point at which sin was conquered, death was overcome, and Satan was JUDGED!

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; (Hebrews 2:14)

So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. (1st Corinthians 15:54)

O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory? (1st Corinthians 15:55)

The sting of death [is] sin; and the strength of sin [is] the law. (1st Corinthians 15:56)

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1st Corinthians 15:57)

There is much more yet to come because Satan will face judgment upon judgment. He will be CAST OUT again and again. As he was first CAST OUT of the heavenly realm of God, and as He was spiritually overcome and CAST OUT of the world at the cross of Christ, he is yet to be CAST OUT again at the end of our known age, when those left on earth, after the great tribulation, will be ushered into the millennial kingdom. Yet, God, in His sovereign power, will allow this demonic menace to once again raise himself in fury against God when ONCE MORE Satan will be CAST forever into his proper prepared place reserved just for him, eternal judgment, and eternal damnation.
