 Genesis

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.(Romans 1:19)

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (Romans 1:20)

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. (Hebrews 11:3)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)

The same was in the beginning with God. (John 1:2)

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:3)

By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. (Psalm 33:6)

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)

We are about to take a journey back through time and space. We are going to see a great cloud of witnesses, and listen to the voice of the Spirit of God within us; for we are the sons of God born of the Spirit and washed in His blood. And as His children: we have the right of revelation, and the truth of God. The Book of Genesis was not given at the foundation of the world, it was given at Mount Sinai on the Sinai peninsula. Moses was the recipient of this divine revelation. It was a wonderful revelation given of God to reveal Himself to man in a written form. God had gathered and formed the nation of Israel, He had led them out of slavery, out of Egypt, and in the process destroyed Pharaoh and his army by the overflowing waters of the Red Sea. He led them, the children of Israel, into the wilderness of Sinai. He would reveal Himself in a supernatural way on Mount Sinai. Mount Sinai would be on fire, there would be thundering and lightening, and His voice would shake the earth out of the cloud above; so that even Moses, His servant, would fear and quake for the mountain shook with the power of God.

For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest, (Hebrews 12:18)

And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more: (Hebrews 12:19)

(For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart: (Hebrews 12:20)

And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:) (Hebrews 12:21)

The voice of God brought fear to all who were gathered at Mount Sinai. This was a long distance (in time) from the days of Adam, or for that matter even from, ‘In the beginning God. Now in the process of time, the Almighty God would give an account of creation so that man would not understand the creation, but the Creator Himself. The great, ‘I AM,’ the self-existent One would now reveal Himself, not to the world, but to the infant nation of Israel. It was God who had created this new nation, and He owned them as His people; they would be the great cloud of witnesses and the depository of God’s truth.

The History of God by God

This little introduction to the Book of Genesis should give us a different mind set than the world, and the religions of the world. For it is not the creation that is being revealed, but the Person of the eternal supernatural all-powerful God, who is the Creator of heaven and earth. If the Almighty wanted to reveal the creation He would have introduced the creation and not Himself, as the Creator. He might have said, ‘In the beginning was the creation,’ of course, this was not His purpose. It is not the HOW, but the WHY and the WHO, and it is why after these thousands of years He revealed Himself in a written form by the hand of Moses. God is going to tell us His history from the foundation of the world. God is going to reveal to us the very dust that we are made of, He is going to reveal His power in the ways that He created the heaven and the earth; all things, both seen and unseen. We will learn of the circle of the earth long before there was a Columbus, we will learn of the circuits of the wind long before satellites, we will learn the names of the stars long before man and his telescope, and God will take us far beyond the stars into His presence in the third heaven.

In the beginning God is a fact of revelation; this revelation is given by God Himself. Should not the possessor of all truth contain truth, and relate truth to man? I speak as a man, if I could write enough books to fill the earth, and all were to reveal God, the very creation around us would be a far greater witness of His eternal power and Godhead than all the writings of man. In Genesis 1, God is slowly revealing Himself. We read Genesis 1 as though we have no time to stop and contemplate these marvelous creational truths concerning the Almighty God. There is no time period given to Genesis 1:1 because time is not the issue. This is a statement of fact! And it is God’s statement to His mighty power, and this is beyond dispute. Man, on the other hand, has proven himself to be a unreliable witness of the truth. Man deals with theory, and not fact. Even in the history of man, written by man, the facts change by the multiplicity of authors. One history is written many times, and each time the facts change. God did not display His truth in this manner. For His truth, and the written word of God is infallible, and will not change. In our modern age, the history of man is being re-written because of political correctness, but there is a history of man written by God’s pen that will not change. Man’s written history, written by himself, is not our concern; for we have the witness of the Spirit of God within ourselves to relate unto our spirit and soul the absolute truth of God.

In the history of man there is one question that continually comes before him, the natural man continually asks throughout time, Where did we come from, and how did we get here? To quiet all the confusion and thousands of theories, God knew exactly who He was, and who He would deal with. He was relating this to man, who was in a fallen condition, for sin had already come into the world when He gave this revelation to Moses. In the beginning is a statement of truth, and throughout the Book of Genesis, God would describe His creatorial powers, and how He would deal with man. The history of man begins in Genesis, and God as simply as He could, inspired Moses to write Genesis 1:1, only to reveal that in the beginning that it was He, God, the infinite all-powerful One who created the heavens and the earth.

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. (John 1:10)

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:3)

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (Revelation 4:11)

When we are dealing with man we must realize that man, as a whole, has rejected his own Creator. Not only did man sin in Adam, but Adam became sin, and in that sin the ego of man became an ego of pride with a willfull dominating spirit; and this condition and state of man was from the fall. For it was man’s desire to be as gods; yet, man was denied this by the Almighty God. Would this not explain man’s relentless effort to deny God in every way? The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. (Psalm 14:1) Thanks be to God that those who are born of Him have His Spirit within them to lead them into all truth, not only to see a Creator, but to see a mighty Redeemer as well, and to display that Redeemer and Creator in the Person of Jesus Christ.

And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: (Ephesians 3:9)

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (Colossians 1:16)

The Unknown God

Remember that in the beginning I described a great cloud of witnesses. This cloud of witnesses encompasses the entire Bible: many voices, many spirits, and many divine miracles; all created and displayed by the Person of the Almighty God. In that cloud of witnesses we have the apostle Paul, when he was standing on Mars hill, he saw a monument built and placed there by man. In reality man had placed it and man was asking the question for the inscription on the monument was ‘TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.’

For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. (Acts 17:23)

God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; (Acts 17:24)

Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; (Acts 17:25)

And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; (Acts 17:26)

That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: (Acts 17:27)

For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. (Acts 17:28)

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. (Acts 17:29)

And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: (Acts 17:30)

Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. (Acts 17:31)

And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: (Romans 1:4)

Here is man’s dilemma, he will search for an unknown God, but will not receive the revealed God. This was God’s desire in Genesis 1, to reveal Himself as the Creator of all things. This one statement of the Almighty God should answer all man’s questions. For all things were created by Him, and for His pleasure. This is HIS creation, He owns it, and directs it in it’s courses and history. If I build a table and put my name to it, then it belongs to me for it is the table that I have built. Man may in the future dispute that I had built the table, but that will not change the truth that I had built that table. You see, man’s position changes nothing in the truth of God. These facts are indisputable, just as the creation is before us, the Creator of all things has revealed Himself to us. God created the heaven and the earth, although man might dispute it he cannot change the facts. For even God could not and would not change the truth — In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Amen.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
